This light and fluffy chocolate pie is surprisingly easy to make! It is no bake and only 5 ingredients! This is a must make for holiday parties!
Chocolate Mousse Pie
Alright. I’ve got another recipe that you need to add to your holiday dessert list! It’s so easy (shhhh I won’t tell) and light and fluffy and chocolaty, you get the picture. So here is how it goes. You melt the chocolate, milk and marshmallows…yes, I said MARSHMALLOWS! Let the melted mixture cool. While it is cooling, you just whip up a couple cups of whipping cream and fold it all together! Thats it. Pour it into the pie crust and chill. Like, chiiiiiillllllll. No serious though. It is so much better fully chilled.
I found this recipe in my mom’s recipes binder. She had cut it out of a magazine years ago. It sounded so good and had a simple list of ingredients which is always a plus! I used a store bought chocolate cookie crust and it turned out so amazing! You gotta try this recipe!
What is a MOUSSE?
According to the internet a mousse (not to be confused with the animal, haha) may be sweet or savoury. Sweet mousses are typically made with whipped egg whites, whipped cream (in todays recipe) or both, and flavored with chocolate (always my first choice), coffee, caramel, puréed fruits, or herbs and spices, like mint or vanilla. … Mousse can also be used as an airy cake filling.
So there you have it! If you don’t want to make this into a pie, this would be equally good with some crushed up chocolate cookies in to bottom of little glasses, then topped with the chocolate mousse and sweetened whip cream!
Tips for making this easy chocolate mousse pie:
- Let the chocolate mixture cool completely before adding the whipped cream
- I used a store bought crust, but you can use a homemade pie crust. Any crust will do. It will be extra full and rounded on top, thats ok! Just stick it in the fridge and it will firm up.
- Let it chill for 4-6 hours or overnight. Add the whipped cream on top just before serving.
- Any kind of chocolate will work, but a good quality chocolate (that you like the flavor of!) is best. If you want a richer mousse, use a semi-sweet or dark chocolate. I love milk chocolate, so that is what I used in this recipe.
- It will be easier to cut this pie if it has chilled completely. I wasn’t patient and cut it a little early and the pieces didn’t stay as set up. Either way it tastes amazing, but is best chilled all the way since it is such a light and fluffy pie.
- It will fill up the pie pan super full. This could also be called, mile high mousse pie. Has a nice ring to it!
How to make easy chocolate curls:
All you need is a chocolate bar. Any kind will do. I used a Hershey Milk Chocolate bar for these pictures. Simply take a vegetable peeler and grate the chocolate into curls. For an added touch, do short swipes for tiny bits of chocolate all over. Such a fun and pretty look that is not hard to do at all!

This easy chocolate mousse pie is so light and fluffy! Plus it's no bake and only has 5 ingredients. Everyone will love this chocolate pie!
- 1 chocolate cookie pie crust (I used a store bought Oreo)
- 9 ounces milk chocolate *
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 16 large marshmallows (or 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows)
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- milk chocolate curls (optional)
-
Melt the chocolate, milk & marshmallows in a medium size saucepan over low heat. Stir consistency until all melted. Let cool completely.
-
While the chocolate mixture cools, whip up the 2 cups whipping cream. Fold into the cooled chocolate mixture. Pour into the pie crust. Chill in the fridge for several hours or overnight.
-
Whip the 1 cup cream until soft peaks form. Mix in the powdered sugar. Spread over the top of the chilled pie right before serving. Grate the chocolate bar with a vegetable peeler on top of the pie if desired.
*I used half of a pound plus milk chocolate bar from trader joes for this recipe (which is 9 ounces). If you want a richer pie, use semi-sweet chocolate. You can use a large (7 ounce) Hershey bar as well. You can also use chocolate chips just make sure they are a good quality brand.
The Oreo crust is so good with this pie. But feel free to use any pie crust you prefer. A deep dish would work as well. If you don't use a deep dish (I didn't) you will have a nice rounded, dome top.
