Easy lemon pull apart rolls are topped with melted butter & a sugared lemon zest mix. Then topped with a sweet lemon glaze after they are baked.
My baby is growing up way too fast! The old saying is SO true. Connor is almost 18 months, I can’t believe it. He has the funniest personality and keeps us all laughing. Every morning he wakes up and within 5 minutes he requests a banana. He is a big eater and seems to always be hungry. But about the banana. It can’t be too green or he will just shake his head “no way”. haha! I’m sure because when bananas are green they aren’t as sweet. Already working on that sweet tooth ;).
So these rolls. They are awesome. Can I ask a question? Is there anyone that doesn’t like lemon? I’m sure there are which is totally cool except that I’m sorry cause you are really missing out! Lemon (mixed with sugar mostly) or butter and garlic etc. is just the best! I’ve got a lot of recipes that use lemon on the blog and I am not about to stop anytime soon.
If you need a reason why these are a must make lets start with, easy! Made with frozen dinner rolls. However, you could totally make these with homemade dough if you are an over achievers and like to complicate things. hehe I’m teasing. I won’t judge ya 🙂 But that will make them a little less easy ;).
Another reason you need to make these is they taste so darn good! The lemon/sugar on top gets slightly crusty and then the butter melts into the rolls. Just all the best things going on here guys!
Once the frozen rolls are thawed (but still cold) you slice them in half and place them in a skillet or pan. Pour some melted butter over them and sprinkle a lemon zest & sugar combo. Let em rise till double in size and then top with the remaining sugar/zest combo and bake! While they are baking, whip up the glaze and that is it! Then all you have to do is try and not eat yourself sick.
If you glaze them right away, the glaze will just sort of melt into the roll. If you wait a little bit, the glaze will set up and show more. Either way, they taste just amazing.
These would be kind of perfect to make during conference weekend. Since you have to let the rolls thaw ( do this during the morning session of conference). Then pour the butter and sprinkle on the topping, let them rise till double between sessions and pop them in the oven and enjoy while watching the next session. - 12 frozen dinner rolls, thawed but still cold (such as Rhodes)
- zest from 2 lemons
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- FOR THE GLAZE:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 Tablespoon butter, melted
- 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- Set the rolls out to thaw (about 1½ - 2 hours).
- While the rolls are thawing, zest the lemons and mix the zest with the sugar.
- Spray a 12" cast iron skillet or 9x13" pan.
- Cut the rolls in half. Pinch the rolls into a small ball and place in the prepared dish evenly.
- Melt the butter and pour over the rolls. Sprinkle half of the lemon sugar mixture over the rolls then cover with plastic wrap sprayed with cooking spray.
- Place the rolls in a warm place. Let the rolls rise until double in size (about 2 hours for me). Sprinkle on the remaining lemon sugar mixture.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 20-25 minutes (I cooked mine for 23 minutes). While they are baking, whisk the glaze ingredients together in a small bowl. Drizzle the glaze over rolls and enjoy!

I live in Australia and we don’t have premade (store bought) dough here, so what type of dough do you suggest I make to make this delicious looking and tasting “Pull Apart”? I can only rate this as I SEE it, not being able to make as yet.
