Chocolate chip cookies with creamy Nutella mixed into the batter, filled with chocolate chips and topped off with flaky sea salt! These cookies are heaven!
I love to make treats for people. I love to eat them too but I just really love making treats for friends and family! Nothing makes me happier than when my husband and kids go crazy over a new dessert. And that’s what happened with these cookies. I make chocolate chip cookies often. It’s our go to dessert. But I wanted something different so I whipped these up. My husband & kids went crazy over them.
What is Nutella?
It’s a hazelnut & cocoa spread. And because I love to know the history of things did you know it was first called SuperCrema?! Crazy right! And if you want to know more interesting details on how this addicting spread came to be, check out Nutella.com …This is not sponsored, I just like the history and stories behind products 🙂
Do you have to use flaky sea salt on top?
No. But I highly recommend it! It adds the perfect touch to these cookies. It adds just the right amount of salty to the sweet! I love Maldron sea salt flakes!
Can I use hazelnut spread in place of Nutella?
Yep! I used Costcos brand of Nutella. While it’s not the exact same, it’s pretty close and worked great. Whatever brand you use, make sure you stir it up really well before you measure it.

A fun twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie! Made with Nutella and butter, filled with chocolate chips then topped with a little flakey sea salt. These cookies are addicting.
- 1/2 cup butter (salted)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup nutella or hazelnut spread (divided)
- 2 cups flour (10 ounces)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)
- flaky sea salt (for tops of cookies)
-
Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
-
In a stand mixer or large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars. Add the egg and egg yolk and mix. Give the Nutella a good stir then measure out 1/4 cup. Add the Nutella and vanilla and mix till combined. Scrape the sides as needed.Â
-
In another bowl, measure the flour. Add the cornstarch, baking soda and salt. Mix together then add to the wet ingredients & mix. Add the chocolate chips (I used milk chocolate) & add the other 1/4 cup of Nutella and mix just until combined and a few streaks remain.
-
Scopp the dough with a medium sized cookie scoop. Roll into a ball and place on baking sheets. Sprinkle with the sea salt. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. When done, let cool on baking sheet. Add more chocolate chips to the top if desired. If any of the cookies spread around the edges, use a small spatula to push in around the edges to make nice circles. I do this whenever I make cookies 🙂
