So what do you call them? Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow? I wanna say I usually call them Puppy Chow but I guess they are technically called Muddy Buddies. Whatever you call them is fine with me 🙂 Such a tasty treat and comes together in 15 minutes. Can’t beat that, especially this time of year. We love to keep Muddy Buddies in the freezer. For some reason they taste so good cold. When we go to the beach in the summer this is a treat that always gets made.
I guess peppermint bark flavored muddy buddies has been around for a couple of years but I hadn’t heard of it until recenlty. Some family members were telling me about it so I got a bag at Target and was excited to give it a try. If I am being honest, I was a tad disapointed. I thought the corn flavor (from the corn chex used) was too strong. It was okay, but I thought a homemade version would be better. I was looking at the package and noticed the picture of the peppermint bark on the front. It had a layer of dark chocolate then white chocolate. Isn’t that the kind of peppermint bark you like? A rich deep chocolate flavor to balance out the sweet white chocolate layer? Thats what it was missing. The other half of the bark! I also used rice chex instead of corn chex and I think it made a huge difference. The rice chex allows the peppermint flavor to really shine. My favorite is to eat a piece of each at the same time. It’s addicting so plan to package some up and give away to neighbors and friends!

If you don’t want to crush up candy cane could you add peppermint extract to the melted chocolate?
Adell says
I believe you could however I have never tried that before. If you try it, let us know how it worked for you!
