Sweet Hawaiian Chicken is better than take-out! Juicy chicken is coated in a delicious sweet sauce and mixed with pineapple and red bell peppers!
This recipe is a huge favorite of my husband and kids! It’s seriously the best! My only complaint about it is that it has a few steps and dirties up some dishes but it’s totally worth it! The recipe is pretty simple actually. It takes just a few steps to get this amazing sweet, pineapple, hawaiian chicken. We like to serve it with this Polynesian rice! Makes the perfect dinner.
When looking at these pictures while editing them, my husband came by at 10:00 at night and said “Wow that looks so good I think I wanna get some of the leftovers out of the fridge and have more right now!” haha
How to make take-out chicken at home!
- Dice up chicken tenders or chicken breasts into about 1″ bite sized, pieces and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- In shallow bowl add 1 cup of cornstarch. In another bowl, beat 3 eggs.
- Now dip the chicken pieces into the cornstarch to coat.
- Then dip them in the egg mixture. (I know, seems weird, just go with it, I promise it works!)
- In a large non-stick skillet, add the oil and heat over medium.
- Next you fry the chicken up in small batches till a lightly golden brown color on the outside.
- You aren’t cooking the chicken all the way through, just browning the outside. The chicken will bake in the oven all the way.
- The chicken is coated in sauce and then baked in the oven along with pineapples & red bell pepper. It’s amazing!
Just take a look at that chicken perfection 😉
I haven’t tried this yet but I bet this recipe would be even more amazing made with a good, fresh pineapple. Next time they are on sale I’m gonna try it and report back! Let me know if you try it too!
So tomorrow is Halloween and I think we are ready. I mean, my kids all have a costume to wear but I’m not sure I’m ready for the sugar high, ah! I love October but I am excited for November. Thanksgiving and our anniversary make for an exciting month!
I can’t wait for you to make this for dinner! Seriously, add it to your menu ASAP. It’s a good one!

Sweet Hawaiian Chicken is better than take-out! Juicy chicken is coated in a delicious sweet sauce and mixed with pineapple and red bell peppers!
- 8 chicken tenders (or 4 chicken breasts)
- 1 cup corn starch
- 3 eggs (beaten)
- salt & pepper
- 1/4 cup oil
- 6 ounces pineapple juice (see note)
- 6 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 red bell pepper (chopped)
- 1 (20 ounce) can pineapple tidbits (drained)
-
Heat your oven to 325 degrees. Grease a baking sheet or 9x13" pan with cooking spray and set it aside. Cut up the red pepper into small pieces and set aside.
-
Cut up the chicken tenders into bite sized pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Put the cornstarch in a large dish or bowl. Put the eggs in another dish or bowl.
-
Dip your chicken pieces in the cornstarch till coated, then dip them in the beaten egg till coated.
-
Heat your oil in a large, non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the coated chicken in batches until they are golden brown on all sides. You just want to brown the outside, they will finish cooking in the oven with the sauce. Place the browned chicken in the prepared dish.
-
In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the sauce. Mix the pineapple juice, brown sugar, soy sauce garlic and cornstarch. Pour the sauce over the chicken then add the chopped red bell pepper and the pineapple tidbits.
-
Bake uncovered for 1 hour. Stir every 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and serve with white rice or this Polynesian rice!
I just buy the 6 pack of canned pineapple juice. They are 6 ounce cans so thats what I use. Better than buying the huge can of pineapple juice and having a bunch leftover 🙂

Love this recipe. Fyi. Pineapple juice can be frozen in ice cube trays or measured out and frozen in snack bags. Just label the bags.
Adell says
Okay great idea to freeze the juice! Thanks for making this recipe and for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Hi! Do you know how the recipe would turn out without eggs or with some sort of substitute? My son has an egg allergy. Thanks!
Adell says
You could try it by dipping in some sort of milk? Or even a yogurt. You just want something coating it to give it a little crust from the cornstarch 🙂
